James Wyatt Woodall is a New York-based musician specializing in pedal steel, guitar, dobro, and other assorted string instruments. His playing has been featured on recordings by Zach Bryan, Jack Van Cleaf, Emily Nenni, Dougie Poole, Elise Trouw, TOLEDO, Olivia Ellen Lloyd, Margaux, JW Francis, and more.
As a touring musician, James has performed with Emily Nenni, Teddy & the Rough Riders, Dougie Poole, The National Reserve, and JW Francis, sharing stages with artists like Orville Peck, Duane Betts, the Deslondes, and others around the country. He is currently on tour with Emily Nenni alongside Teddy & the Rough Riders.
Beyond his work as a sideman, James is also a composer and producer, writing and producing for independent artists such as Nolan Lunsford, Ross Newhouse, and Jacqueline Hackett.
When at home, James can be found in New York’s honky tonks and country music venues like Skinny Dennis, Desert 5 Spot, Honky Tonk in Queens, Hill Country, and Jalopy Theatre with local groups such as The Slide Stops, The National Reserve, Wilson & Walsh, North of Amarillo, and Chris Luquette & Nashville East. He also frequently backs Nashville artists passing through the Tri-State area, including Timbo, Pat Reedy, Hannah Juanita, Mose Wilson, Tony Hannah, Gethen Jenkins, Eliza Thorn, and Megg Ferrell. In addition, James accompanies local singer-songwriters in New York venues like Brooklyn Made, Baby’s All Right, Knitting Factory, Mercury Lounge, Elsewhere, and more. Additionally, James has performed at special NY events like the red carpet premiere of Wes Anderson's Asteroid City at Lincoln Center.
Outside of music, James has a deep passion for history. He holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an M.A. from Duke University, specializing in 20th-century U.S. history.
