James Wyatt Woodall is a New York-based musician specializing in pedal steel, guitar, dobro, and other assorted string instruments. He has collaborated with Zach Bryan, Rostam, Emily Nenni, Waylon Wyatt, Claud, Dougie Poole, Pantene, Jack Van Cleaf, Coyle Girelli, TOLEDO, Olivia Ellen Lloyd, Elise Trouw, Teddy & The Rough Riders, The National Reserve, Margaux, JW Francis, and more. James has recorded at Electric Lady Land, Southern Grooves (Memphis), Restoration Sound, Sear Sounds, Studio G, Thump, Waldin, Mason Jar, and more. Festival appearances include Austin City Limits, Gulf Coast Jam, MerleFest, and Brooklyn Folk Festival, with features on PBS’s Muscle Shoals to Music Row LIVE and VEVO DSCVR’s Artists to Watch.
Beyond his work as a sideman, James is also a composer and producer, writing and producing for independent artists such as Nolan Lunsford, Ross Newhouse, Red McAdam, and Jacqueline Hackett.
When at home, James can be found performing with The Slide Stops, The National Reserve, Wilson & Walsh, North of Amarillo, Margo Valiante, Olivia Ellen Lloyd, and Chris Luquette & Nashville East. He also frequently backs Nashville and Austin artists passing through the Tri-State area, including JP Harris, Timbo, Pat Reedy, Sweet Megg, Hannah Juanita, Mose Wilson, Tony Hannah, Gethen Jenkins, Eliza Thorn, Christopher Seymour, and India Ramey. James accompanies local singer-songwriters in New York venues like Brooklyn Made, Baby’s All Right, Knitting Factory, Mercury Lounge, Elsewhere, and more. Additionally, James has performed at special NY events like the red carpet premiere of Wes Anderson's Asteroid City at Lincoln Center.
James also has a deep passion for history. He holds a B.A. from Columbia University and an M.A. from Duke University, specializing in 20th-century U.S. history.
